For some, public service is a profession.
For Katrina Wilson, it has always been a purpose.
For more than 30 years, Former Councilwoman Katrina Wilson has dedicated her life to empowering students, strengthening families, and building healthier, more connected communities throughout Miami-Dade County. Her career has been defined not by titles, but by a steadfast commitment to serving others with integrity, compassion, and vision.
A proud native of Miami-Dade County, Katrina's journey began in the classroom. As an educator, teacher, principal, and district administrator, she devoted decades to shaping the lives of young people, believing that education is the foundation upon which strong communities are built. Her leadership has impacted countless students, educators, and families, creating opportunities that continue to influence future generations.
Driven by a passion to serve beyond the classroom, Katrina answered the call to public office, serving as a Councilwoman for the City of Miami Gardens. Throughout her tenure, she became a trusted advocate for residents, championing initiatives that promoted education, neighborhood engagement, youth development, and community empowerment. She earned a reputation as a collaborative leader who believed that lasting progress is achieved by bringing people together.
Her influence extends well beyond elected office. Katrina has become one of South Florida's most respected community leaders, lending her leadership to organizations, civic initiatives, educational programs, and events that celebrate culture, history, and unity. Most notably, she served as one of the principal architects behind the Miami Gardens Juneteenth Experience, helping lead six consecutive years of one of South Florida's premier celebrations of freedom, heritage, and Black excellence. Under her leadership, the event grew into a powerful platform that educates, inspires, and unites thousands of attendees each year.
Throughout every chapter of her career, Katrina has remained committed to mentoring emerging leaders, encouraging civic engagement, and investing in the next generation. Whether working with students, partnering with community organizations, or advocating for families, her leadership has always been guided by a simple belief: when people are given opportunity, support, and encouragement, entire communities flourish.
Her unwavering dedication has earned her numerous recognitions, including the 2026 Legacy In Black Gala Visionary Award, honoring her decades of service, transformational leadership, and lasting impact on the people of South Florida.
Today, Katrina Wilson's legacy continues to grow through the lives she has touched, the leaders she has inspired, and the communities she has helped transform.
